Medical Services
Since undergraduate and fellowship training at UCT Dr Demblon has worked as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in private practice from 1996, constantly developing and advancing his surgical skills and techniques. He has provided orthopaedic cover for the Claremont and Kingsbury emergency units for more than 20 years. He works closely with specialists in other fields and, together, they provide a high level of service at Life Kingsbury Hospital where he has his rooms. He also operates at Life Sport Science Orthopaedic Surgical Day Centre.
Orthopaedic Trauma
Dr Demblon has extensive experience in assessing and treating upper limb and lower limb traumatic injuries, including fractures, dislocations, and ligament tears. He is highly skilled in both non-surgical and surgical fracture management techniques and will ensure that you receive the most appropriate and effective treatment for your injury. The most common injuries requiring surgery are wrist and ankle fractures.
Sports Injuries
Whether you are a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, Dr Demblon has the expertise to treat upper limb and lower limb sports-related injuries. From sprains and strains to fractures and dislocations, he employs advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technology to help you recover. Common arthroscopic procedures include rotator cuff repairs and knee ligament reconstructions.
Upper Limb
The upper limb, including the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand, is essential for performing daily activities and participating in sports. From rotator cuff tears and shoulder instability to tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome, Dr. Demblon offers personalized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs, aiming to alleviate pain, restore function, and improve your quality of life.
Technology in Practice
Orthopaedic diagnostic and surgical techniques advance rapidly and surgeons require continuous education throughout their career.
Diagnostic Ultrasound
This can now be performed in the surgeon’s rooms, saving time and costs, and facilitating correct diagnosis. It can also be used to enhance treatment by accurately targeting therapy such as joint injections. It is most useful in evaluation of the shoulder rotator cuff tendons.
Intra-operative Xrays
Image intensifiers are used for fluoroscopy in the operating theatre. They convert low energy X-radiation into real-time visible light images producing
very low levels of radiation. They are used in orthopaedic surgery to enable closed fracture treatment and to assist with open fracture surgery.
Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy allows for complex articular procedures through small incisions, so-called “keyhole “ surgery. The joint can be visualised and assessed better than through open surgery and recovery is usually faster. A 5mm scope is used for shoulder/elbow/knee and usually a smaller “needle” scope for wrist/ankle.
Testimonials
Dear Andre, I would like to express my gratitude to you for your skilled and excellent care of my debilitating injury. It has all been made more bearable by your expertise and collegial kindness. I shall ever be grateful for the care I received from you and your colleagues during this difficult time.
Dear Dr Demblon, thank you for your kindness me, to say nothing of the hip fracture operation itself which we know was a great success. Your approachability, friendliness and cheerfulness is so appreciated. May you go from strength to strength. My sincere thanks again.
Dear Dr Demblon, my Mom’s lungs finally gave in last night. Thank you for the relief your shoulder replacement gave her. Without the skill and courage of you and your team, her last months would have been very different.
